Kenia 2027 – pomóżmy dzieciom zostać w szkole

Ponad 15 lat temu wyjechałam do Kenii prowadzić badania etnograficzne. Pracowałam wtedy w Korogocho i Kiberze – dwóch nieformalnych osiedlach Nairobi. Od tamtej pory regularnie tam wracam. Z częścią poznanych wtedy rodzin pozostaję w bliskim kontakcie do dziś. To właśnie tam poznałam dzieci, których edukację wspólnie wspieramy od wielu lat. Nie są to przypadkowe osoby – znam je i ich opiekunów od kilkunastu lat, odwiedzam ich podczas moich pobytów w Kenii i mogę obserwować, jak zmienia się ich życie. Dla tych młodych ludzi możliwość ukończenia szkoły oznacza nie tylko zdobycie wiedzy, ale przede wszystkim większą szansę na samodzielne życie i możliwość decydowania o własnej przyszłości. Od wielu lat dzięki Waszemu wsparciu mogę co roku organizować zbiórkę na ich edukację. Dzięki temu dzieci mogą kontynuować naukę, zdawać kolejne egzaminy i planować przyszłość z większym spokojem. Jestem ogromnie wdzięczna wszystkim osobom, które od lat współtworzą tę historię.

Dlaczego zbiórka rusza już teraz?

Dotychczas rozpoczynałam zbiórki dopiero pod koniec roku, tuż przed rozpoczęciem nowego roku szkolnego w Kenii. Oznaczało to wiele niepewności – czy uda się zebrać potrzebne środki na czas. Tym razem chciałabym przygotować się wcześniej. Środki z tej zbiórki zostaną przeznaczone na edukację dzieci w 2027 roku. Koszty nauki na kolejny rok nie są jeszcze ostatecznie znane – szkoły ogłoszą je dopiero pod koniec roku. Na podstawie obecnych opłat szacuję jednak, że zabezpieczenie edukacji dzieci będzie wymagało około 7 500–8 000 zł. Jeśli rzeczywiste koszty okażą się niższe lub dzięki Waszej hojności uda się zebrać większą kwotę, pozostałe środki zostaną przeznaczone na wsparcie innych dzieci, którym grozi przerwanie nauki z powodu braku środków na czesne, egzaminy lub inne wydatki związane z edukacją. Od wielu lat współpracuję również z zaprzyjaźnioną kenijską inicjatywą Watu kwa Watu, prowadzoną całkowicie społecznie przez moich przyjaciół mieszkających w Nairobi. Wspólnie pomagamy dzieciom znajdującym się w szczególnie trudnej sytuacji życiowej.

Poznajcie dzieci, których edukację wspólnie wspieramy

Poniżej zamieszczam ich aktualne zdjęcia. Dla mnie są one przede wszystkim świadectwem upływu czasu i tego, jak wiele udało się wspólnie osiągnąć. Niektórzy z Was pamiętają ich jeszcze jako kilkuletnie dzieci. Dziś są już nastolatkami i młodymi dorosłymi.

Beveline w przyszłym roku rozpocznie ostatnią klasę szkoły średniej. Poznałyśmy się kilkanaście lat temu, gdy była jeszcze małą dziewczynką. Od niemowlęctwa wychowuje ją sąsiadka, która stworzyła jej dom. Dziś przygotowuje się do egzaminów kończących szkołę średnią i planuje kolejne etapy swojej edukacji.

Natalia właśnie ukończyła szkołę podstawową i rozpoczyna naukę w szkole średniej. To bardzo ważny etap jej edukacji. Wychowuje ją tata, a możliwość kontynuowania nauki daje jej szansę na dalszy rozwój. Z ogromną radością obserwuję, jak z roku na rok staje się coraz bardziej samodzielna.

Suleiman również przygotowuje się do ostatniego roku szkoły średniej. Jego rodzinę znam szczególnie dobrze – mieszkałam z nimi podczas badań terenowych do doktoratu i od tamtej pory pozostajemy w kontakcie. Rodzina Suleimana wychowuje również dwoje dzieci, którymi zaopiekowała się po ich porzuceniu. Wspierając edukację Suleimana, pomagamy całej rodzinie.

Na zdjęciu w todze jest również Tariq. Choć tegoroczna zbiórka dotyczy Beveline, Natalii i Suleimana, Tariq pozostaje pod naszą opieką i pomagamy mu wtedy, gdy pojawiają się dodatkowe potrzeby związane z jego edukacją.

Dlaczego warto wspierać tę zbiórkę?

Największą wartością tej inicjatywy jest jej ciągłość. Nie jest to jednorazowa akcja pomocowa. Znam te dzieci od wielu lat. Regularnie spotykamy się podczas moich pobytów w Kenii, rozmawiamy o szkole, planach i codziennym życiu. Mam stały kontakt z ich opiekunami oraz szkołami. Dzięki temu mogę obserwować, jak dorastają i jak ogromną różnicę robi możliwość regularnego chodzenia do szkoły.

Jak wykorzystuję zebrane środki?

Środki zebrane podczas zbiórki przeznaczam wyłącznie na edukację dzieci oraz – w razie potrzeby – inne wydatki związane z ich nauką. Wszystkie wpłaty do szkół są dokumentowane. Na bieżąco otrzymuję rachunki ze szkół, potwierdzenia wpłat oraz informacje o postępach dzieci w nauce. Zbiórkę prowadzę prywatnie i chętnie odpowiem na pytania dotyczące sposobu przekazywania środków, kenijskiego systemu edukacji czy samej zbiórki. 📧 [email protected]

Kenya 2027 – Help Keep Young People in School

More than 15 years ago, I travelled to Kenya to conduct ethnographic research. I worked in Korogocho and Kibera, two informal settlements in Nairobi. Since then, I have returned regularly and have remained in close contact with some of the families I first met there. It was there that I met the three young people whose education we have been supporting together for many years. They are not anonymous beneficiaries - I have known them and their families for over a decade, visit them whenever I am in Kenya, and have had the privilege of watching them grow up. For them, education means much more than attending school. It is a chance to build an independent future and make their own life choices. Thanks to your generosity, I have been able to organise an annual fundraiser to support their education. Year after year, your donations have helped them stay in school, complete each stage of their education, and look towards the future with greater confidence. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Why am I launching this fundraiser already in July?

In previous years, I usually started fundraising only at the end of the year, shortly before the new school year began in Kenya. That meant a great deal of uncertainty about whether enough money could be raised in time. This year I would like to prepare earlier. The funds raised through this campaign will be used to cover school fees and other educational costs for the 2027 school year. The exact fees for next year have not yet been announced by the schools. Based on the current costs, I estimate that supporting the education of these three young people will require approximately PLN 7,500–8,000. If the actual costs turn out to be lower, or if we raise more than expected, the remaining funds will be used to help other children who are at risk of leaving school because they cannot afford school fees, examinations, or other education-related expenses. For many years I have also worked closely with Watu kwa Watu, a grassroots initiative run entirely by my friends in Nairobi on a voluntary basis. Together we support children who might otherwise be unable to continue their education.

Meet the young people whose education we support together

Below you can find their current photographs. For me, they are a reminder of how much time has passed and how much we have achieved together. Some of you may remember them as small children. Today, they are teenagers and young adults.

Beveline. Next year, Beveline will begin her final year of secondary school. I first met her when she was a little girl. Since infancy she has been raised by a neighbour who became her guardian and gave her a home. Today she is preparing for her final secondary school examinations and thinking about the next stage of her education.

Natalia. Natalia has just completed primary school and is about to begin secondary school—an important milestone in her educational journey. She is being raised by her father, and continuing her education gives her the opportunity to keep developing her talents and interests. It has been a joy to watch her grow into such a confident young person.

Suleiman. Suleiman is also preparing to enter his final year of secondary school. I know his family particularly well—I lived with them while conducting fieldwork for my PhD, and we have stayed in touch ever since. His family has also taken in and raised two children who had been abandoned shortly after birth. Supporting Suleiman's education means supporting an entire family.

Tariq.Tariq is also pictured in the graduation photo. Although this year's fundraiser focuses on Beveline, Natalia, and Suleiman, we continue to support Tariq whenever additional educational needs arise.

Why does this fundraiser matter?

The greatest strength of this initiative is its continuity. This is not a one-off fundraising campaign. I have known these young people for many years. Whenever I visit Kenya, we meet, talk about school, everyday life, and their plans for the future. I also remain in regular contact with their guardians and schools. This long-term relationship allows me to see how much consistent access to education can change a young person's life.

How will the funds be used?

All money raised through this campaign will be used exclusively for the children's education and, whenever necessary, other education-related expenses. Every payment to the schools is documented. I receive school invoices, payment confirmations, and regular updates on the children's educational progress. This fundraiser is a private, grassroots initiative.
