Joo Min-kyu, a key player in Ulsan Hyundai’s K League 1 championship campaign, has been named the MVP of Round 36 of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 season. The Korea Professional Football League announced on November 5 that Joo earned the title following his crucial performance in Ulsan’s victory over Gangwon FC on November 1. In the match held at Ulsan Sports Complex, Joo scored Ulsan’s second goal in the 53rd minute, deftly converting a cross from Lee Chung-yong with his left foot. His goal secured a 2-1 win for Ulsan and clinched their third consecutive league title. Alongside Joo, other Ulsan players like Rubikson, Go Seung-beom, Lee Chung-yong, and Kim Ki-hee made it into the Best XI for Round 36, making Ulsan the K League 1 Best Team for the second round in a row. The Best Match of K League 1 Round 36 was awarded to the thrilling clash between Daegu FC and Jeju United at DGB Daegu Bank Park on November 3. Daegu initially took the lead in the 40th minute with a goal from Vaselus, but Jeju’s Kim Ju-gong leveled the score early in the second half. Daegu then regained the lead through Jang Seong-won, but Kim Ju-gong struck again in the 88th minute, resulting in an exciting 2-2 draw. In K League 2, the MVP of Round 38 went to Byeon Gyeong-jun of Seoul E-Land. Byeon’s standout performance included one goal and two assists, leading his team to a 3-0 victory over Gyeongnam FC on November 3 at Changwon Football Center. He contributed to all three of Seoul E-Land’s goals, with a scoring strike in the 64th minute, an assist for Kim Shin-jin’s opening goal in the 56th, and another assist for Bruno Silva’s clincher in the 76th. This award marked Byeon’s second consecutive MVP title in K League 2. The Best Match of K League 2 Round 38 was the encounter between Cheonan City and Busan IPark, held on November 2 at Cheonan Stadium. Busan took an early lead with Eum Ra-pa’s goal in the fourth minute, but Cheonan’s Motta equalized shortly afterward. Although Busan’s Fejsin restored the lead in the 21st minute, Motta struck again to level the game at the start of the second half. Fejsin then scored the winning goal in the 57th minute, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory for Busan. The Best Team of K League 2 Round 38 was Jeonnam Dragons, who delivered a strong 3-0 win against Chungbuk Cheongju on November 3 at Gwangyang Football Stadium. Goals from Hong Seok-hyun, Valdivia, and Kim Jong-min powered Jeonnam’s dominant performance. K League Best XI and MVP selections are determined by the Technical Study Group (TSG) of the Korea Professional Football League’s technical committee. TSG representatives evaluate each K League match to nominate a Best XI and Man of the Match (MOM). Following a match assessment meeting, TSG members analyze player ratings, feedback, and statistical data from official provider Bepro to finalize the Best XI and MVP for each round. The MVP is chosen from the MOMs of each match, following the same selection process as the Best XI. With Joo Min-kyu leading the way, Ulsan Hyundai’s Round 36 MVP and Best XI honors reflect a season of consistent teamwork and dedication, cementing their position as champions in K League 1.
