In Poland, there is an animal sanctuary where around 100 elderly dogs and cats are looked after by one person: Iwona Gabor-Kantorowicz.

I came across this non-profit organisation for the first time back in 2016 after Iwona received an eviction notice from her landlord.

Within a couple of months, she managed to fundraise money for her own property near a forest. She, and the sanctuary’s animals, have stayed there to this day.

Most of these animals need specialist care and medical treatment, including regular visits to the vet and specialist diets.

This is Mrs. Iwona’s everyday life. All the dogs and cats live in total harmony under one roof.

Most of them spend the final days of their lives under Iwona’s care.

As Iwona is giving 100% of her time and attention to the sanctuary, she often struggles financially.

Specialist dietary requirements and regular vet appointments are expensive.
