ATTENTION! Our crowdfounding is extended to 15.04.2020!
We are called the Czarny Karzeł (Black Dwarf) Foundation. We are an artistic group from Bydgoszcz, uniting creators of various branches of culture. The love for art and people has joined us together. We know that together we can do the impossible and important. So far, we have done several social-artistic works, engaging both professional artists and amateurs.
At present, we have been working on the first episode of the extraordinary series of Polish folk tales – ‘Kwiat Paproci’ – ‘Fern Flower’. Thanks to the passion and commitment of many people, in an old post-industrial hall we have built some impressive film set decorations – mysterious forests, dangerous gorges, a cave. Unfortunately, we ran out of money to finish the film. So now all those efforts may go to waste – and the film story, that could help people get to know Polish tradition, will never come into being. We are running out of time, as the building we are in is not suitable for remaining in it in winter.
What is our story about?
It is a tale of a boy who goes on a dangerous journey on St. John’s day’s eve, in search of the magical fern flower. According to legends, the one who finds it will come into possession of immense wealth and even achieve lasting happiness. Whilst travelling through the mysterious forest, the young hero meets fantastic creatures and beings out of this world, and ultimately challenges his own dark side and naïve delusions of an easy path to happiness. The movie is mostly addressed to children and teens; adult viewers will also enjoy it though, by evoking their childhood memories.
The project has been backed up by the Polish Film Institute, who has granted us a subsidy for development. However, we still lack funds to complete the project. Our love for this story has passed on some famous actors. Some of them, who agreed to star in the movie, are Agata Buzek, Anita Sokołowska, Sandra Korzeniak…
The money collected in this crowdfunding campaign will be used to:
Build mechatronic dolls,
Rent the lighting gear and cameras,
Pay for the post-production costs – picture and sound editing, colouring the movie.
By courtesy of Moderator Inwestycje Sp. z o.o., in the post-industrial factory hall, a “small Hollywood” was created. In the rooms of the former customs house, the team of thirty people have been creating unique move set decorations (In order to be more eco-friendly, we utilise a lot of waste paper). Using the paper maché technique, we have been creating a humongous, mythical forest – full-size trees and large-sized painting, the surface of which being 180 square meters. We make unique paper plants by hand – forest undergrowth, ferns and bushes. We create cottages and roads, a dark cave and painted backgrounds. We build spectacular models of landscapes necessary for special effects. We sculpt, sew and mould dolls that will appear in the movie, such as cats, ravens, bats and dragonflies. We apply both traditional methods of work and innovative technological solutions. We experiment with mechatronics and silicone. So far, we have designed several dozens of unique costumes; all the fabrics were hand-dyed in order to give them outstanding, precious colours.
Support our unique project and promote Polish tradition!
We encourage you to see our amazing film set and watch us work ‘live’. You can visit us in the hall in Rycerska Street in Bydgoszcz. The creators of the ‘Fern Flower’ and the members of the team will gladly show you around the set and share some filmmaking secrets.
