Walktober @ Akademeia – Step by Step for Wellbeing & Scholars!
The Wellbeing Team invites the entire Akademeia community – students, mentors, parents, and staff – to join Walktober 2025, our October step challenge!
Why Walktober?
Walking is simple, healthy, and powerful. Research shows that regular physical activity helps protect young people’s mental health, especially in the autumn months. By walking together, we support resilience, boost our wellbeing, and strengthen our community.
At the same time, every step you take helps us raise funds for our graduating scholars – supporting their future pathways.
Our Goals
- Step target: 120,000,000 steps (≈ 96,000 km – more than twice around Earth’s equator!)
- Fundraising target: 13,000 PLN
- 12,000 PLN to support our graduating scholars
- 1,000 PLN to fund prizes for outstanding walkers and mentor groups
💡 How it works:
100 steps = 1 grosz → 120,000,000 steps = 12,000 PLN
Everyone can contribute! Staff, students, parents, and family members can log their steps (parents/family through this form).
Timeline
- 01/10 – 09/11: Step challenge & Zrzutka open
- Weekly updates: Mentor groups and year groups compete – results announced every Friday!
- 11/11: Celebration assembly + prize ceremony 🎉
Why it matters
- Mental health: 1 in 10 Polish adolescents experience chronic depressive symptoms. Walktober is a simple, evidence-based prevention strategy.
- Physical wellbeing: Moderate daily activity helps reduce stress, boost mood, and build resilience.
- Community: By walking together, we support one another – and our graduating scholars.
