Memoria- An Independent Film production

Logline- Ella disappears after leaving a reunion dinner in her hometown. What follows is a metaphysical story about grief, time and memory.

Synopsis

Ella returns to her hometown after years away and meets some old friends for dinner. She is found dead by a football field the next morning. Detective Daniel is assigned to the case and wants to find the truth against the wishes of his superiors.

As Daniel and his assistant Mirek move through this dreamy small town, its familiar streets, its closed doors, its people; the investigation begins to feel like something more than an investigation. The timeline doesn't hold and Ella herself keeps appearing at the edges of the story, in fragments, in the days before she came back.

Memoria is a film that moves between past and present and explores the themes of grief, time and the persistence of memory.

The film sits alongside Mulholland Drive, Shutter Island, and Three Colours: Blue ; stories where grief, guilt and loss collapse the line between what is real and what the mind needs to be real. Like Persona, it refuses to resolve cleanly. It holds ambiguity because that is what grief actually feels like.

Memoria was written by myself to explore the themes of grief, time and memory. It  will be shot in Poland, in English, with a volunteer cast and crew assembled under Prometheus Collective, a creative circle I brought together around a shared belief that independent cinema is the way forward. Every person on this project chose to be here and this shows in our work.

Memoria - Film Niezależny

Logline

Ella znika po opuszczeniu kolacji ze znajomymi z dawnych lat w rodzinnym mieście. To, co następuje później, jest metafizyczną opowieścią o żałobie, czasie i pamięci.

Synopsis

Po latach nieobecności Ella wraca do rodzinnego miasta i spotyka się z dawnymi przyjaciółmi na kolacji. Następnego ranka zostaje znaleziona martwa przy boisku piłkarskim. Detektyw Daniel zostaje przydzielony do sprawy i chce odkryć prawdę wbrew życzeniom swoich przełożonych.

Gdy Daniel i jego asystent Mirek przemierzają to senne, małomiasteczkowe miejsce, jego znajome ulice, zamknięte drzwi i mieszkańców, śledztwo zaczyna przypominać coś więcej niż zwykłe dochodzenie. Chronologia wydarzeń przestaje się zgadzać. A sama Ella nieustannie pojawia się na obrzeżach tej historii: we fragmentach wspomnień, urywkach zdarzeń i dniach poprzedzających jej powrót.

Memoria to film poruszający się między przeszłością a teraźniejszością, badający tematykę żałoby, czasu oraz trwałości pamięci.

Film wpisuje się w nurt takich dzieł jak Mulholland Drive, Shutter Island i Trzy kolory: Niebieski, historii, w których żal, poczucie winy i strata zacierają granicę między tym, co rzeczywiste, a tym, co umysł potrzebuje uznać za rzeczywistość. Podobnie jak Persona, film nie oferuje jednoznacznego rozwiązania. Pozostawia miejsce na niejednoznaczność, ponieważ właśnie tak odczuwana jest żałoba.

Memoria została napisana przeze mnie jako próba zgłębienia tematów żalu, czasu i pamięci. Film będzie realizowany w Polsce, w języku angielskim, z udziałem wolontariackiej obsady i ekipy zebranej pod szyldem Prometheus Collective, kreatywnego kolektywu, który stworzyłem wokół wspólnego przekonania, że przyszłość należy do kina niezależnego. Każda osoba zaangażowana w ten projekt wybrała udział w nim świadomie, a to znajduje odzwierciedlenie w naszej pracy.

Risks and challenges

We're a volunteer led Indie film project with a super talented and passionate team, but creating an Indie film carries certain risks; lack of equipment, logistical issues and no distribution.

We have the core equipment to make the film but we will be using the funds to cover external equipment rental costs to make sure we make a film the story deserves and to ensure our volunteers are well taken care of.
