Problem :

Od 3 lat na południu Madagaskaru panuje ogromna susza. Jej powodem są konsekwencje zmian klimatu (pożary, burze piaskowe, brak opadów) i wylesianie regionu. Przy braku innego źródła energii potrzebnego do przygotowania posiłków, lokalna ludność zmuszona jest wycinać drzewa. Wokół Andrafitrazo nie ma już lasu, dlatego mieszkańcy przemierzają wiele kilometrów, aby pozyskać wodę oraz w poszukiwaniu drewna na opał. Co więcej, susza doprowadziła do spadku plonów o 40% w 2021 roku w stosunku do średniej rocznej z pięciu ostatnich lat. Poziom niedożywienia wśród dzieci poniżej 5 roku życia wzrósł w ciągu czterech miesięcy niemal dwukrotnie (z 9% w grudniu 2020 do 16% w marcu 2021).

Nasze cele:

Wioskę Andrafitrazo zamieszkuje 180 rodzin. Celem Fundacji My Baobab jest sfinansowanie zakupu pieców słonecznych dla każdej z nich. Piece te nie wymagają drewna czy węgla - czerpią energię wyłącznie ze słońca. Gdy drewno nie będzie już potrzebne do gotowania, proces wylesiania zostanie zatrzymany.

Równolegle w wiosce prowadzone są działania polegające na wydrążeniu studni oraz nasadzeniach drzew. Działania te, wraz z przejściem na używanie pieców słonecznych, pomogą w trwały sposób zabezpieczyć egzystencję mieszkańców Andrafitrazo. Bez konieczności długich wędrówek po drewno, dzieci będą mogły z powrotem uczęszczać do szkoły.

O Fundacji:

Fundacja My Baobab jest inicjatywą wolontariuszy, którzy działają na rzecz malgaskiej młodzieży. Większość z nas zdobyła doświadczenie podczas pobytów w placówkach misyjnych w państwach Afryki (Madagaskar, Kenia, Zambia, Uganda).

W latach 2007-2021 ufundowaliśmy stypendia uniwersyteckie dla ponad 60 maturzystów z Czerwonej Wyspy. Na terenie Polski, Zarząd i Wolontariusze Fundacji angażują się w działania mające na celu przybliżenie Polakom blasków i cieni życia na Madagaskarze. Od 2012 Fundacja umożliwia młodym bezpośrednie zaangażowanie na Wyspie, polegające m.in. na pracy z tamtejszą młodzieżą podczas półkolonii letnich.

Oprócz edukacji wspieramy również projekty z innych dziedzin np. sfinansowanie rocznego zapasu ryżu dla sierocińca w Antananarywie, czy zakup sprzętu medycznego dla szpitala w Antsirabe.

Meet the Andrafitrazo village, located in the south of Madagascar...

and its residents:

The problem:

For 3 years, southern Madagascar has been suffering from severe drought caused by the repercussions of climate change (fires, sandstorms, lack of rain) and deforestation of the region. In absence of an alternative energy source needed to prepare meals, the local population is forced to cut down trees. There is no forest any more around Andrafitrazo, so children are forced to travel many kilometres looking for water and firewood. On top of that, due to the drought, crops in 2021 were 40% lower compared with the annual average from the last five years. The level of malnutrition among children below 5 years of age has nearly doubled over four months (from 9% in December 2020 to 16% in March 2021).

Our goals:

The village of Andrafitrazo is inhabited by 180 families. The goal of the My Baobab Foundation is to finance the purchase of solar furnaces for each of them. These furnaces do not require wood or coal — they only use the energy from the sun. When wood is no longer needed for cooking, the deforestation process will be halted.

Simultaneously, work involving digging wells and planting trees are in progress in the village. These activities, combined with the transition to solar furnaces, will help to secure the existence of Andrafitrazo residents in a long lasting and sustainable way. Without the need for long walks in search of wood, children will be able to return to school.

About the Foundation:

The My Baobab Foundation is an initiative of volunteers acting in support of Malagasy youth. The majority of us gained experience while staying in missionary centres in various African countries (Madagascar, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda).

In 2007-2021, we funded university scholarships for more than 60 secondary school graduates from the Red Island. In Poland, the Foundation’s Management Board and Volunteers are involved in activities aimed at familiarising Poles with the ups and downs of life in Madagascar. Since 2012, the Foundation has allowed young people to become directly involved on the island, among others by working with the local youth during summer day camps.

Apart from education, we also support projects from other areas, such as the funding of annual rice supply for the orphanage in Antananarivo and the purchasing of medical equipment for the hospital in Antsirabe.

Le problème :

Une sécheresse catastrophique règne à Madagascar depuis 3 ans. Ses causes sont les changements climatiques (incendies, tempêtes de sable, manque de pluie) et la déforestation de la région. En l’absence d’une autre source d’énergie, nécessaire pour préparer les repas, la population locale est forcée d’abattre des arbres. Il n’y a plus de forêt autour d’Andrafitrazo, c’est pourquoi les habitants parcourent plusieurs kilomètres pour aller chercher du bois et de l’eau. En outre, à cause de la sécheresse, les récoltes de cette année sont de 40 % plus maigres que celles des cinq années précédentes. Le niveau de sous-alimentation parmi les enfants de moins de 5 ans a quasiment doublé au cours de quatre mois (de 9 % en décembre 2020 à 16 % en mars 2021).

Nos objectifs :

Le village d’Andrafitrazo est habité par 180 familles. L’objectif de la Fondation My Baobab est de financer l’achat d’un four solaire pour chacune d’entre elles. Les fours n’exigent ni charbon ni bois : ils n’utilisent que l’énergie solaire. Si le bois n’est plus nécessaire pour cuisiner, le processus de la déforestation sera arrêté.

D’autres opérations sont menées en même temps dans le village : le creusage d’un puits et la plantation d’arbres. Toutes ces activités aideront de manière durable à sécuriser l’existence des habitants d’Andrafitrazo. Les enfants, qui ne devront plus faire de longs déplacements pour aller chercher du bois, pourront fréquenter à nouveau l’école.

À propos de la Fondation :

La Fondation My Baobab est une initiative de bénévoles qui agissent pour les jeunes malgaches. La plupart d’entre nous ont acquis de l’expérience pendant des séjours dans des centres missionnaires dans différents pays d’Afrique (Madagascar, Kenya, Zambie, Ouganda).

Durant les années 2007-2021, nous avons financé des bourses universitaires pour plus de 60 lycéens de l’île Rouge. En Pologne, le conseil d’administration et les bénévoles s’engagent à des actions qui visent à faire connaître aux Polonais les deux côtés de la vie à Madagascar. Depuis 2012, les jeunes bénévoles peuvent s’engager directement sur l’île pour travailler avec des enfants et adolescents malgaches pendant des camps d’été.

Outre l’éducation, nous soutenons aussi des projets dans d’autres domaines : le financement de la réserve annuelle de riz pour un orphelinat à Antananarivo ou l’achat de l’équipement médical pour un hôpital à Antsirabe.
