  • Today was a busy day. I got in touch with a Ukrainian woman, Lena, who supports a family of 3 - a mom, Anna, and her two little boys (3 and 6 yo) who came from Ukraine with nothing. Lena managed to find them a nice free accommodation (they have nowhere to go back now), but the family was in desperate need of clothes for the boys. To the point that they cannot leave their place until they get a package from me, because they don't have any proper clothes for this weather - and it's still snowy in the south of Poland (especially since they're located near the mountains). I gathered a lot of clothes - two wonderful women from Rybnik donated lots of beautiful stuff - but I was missing shoes, winter hats and scarves, and a few other things, which I bought. I got them some winter shoes but also some for warmer weather, as well as some cosmetics for children + meds for them (mom asked for something for fever, I bought also caught syrups and vitamins). As mom didn't ask for anything for herself, I decided to surprise her with a box full of cosmetics just for her + some new underwear and socks, as I wasn't sure about her size. I send them all the stuff in 2 big boxes (as they leave over 200km from me). I also attached an envelope with a short letter and 100zł for mom. I asked her to use it to buy something that would make her happy.

Description

My dear international friends!

Most of you surely know what is currently happening in Ukraine. Their country was invaded, there is a real war happening on their streets. Many Ukrainians are risking their lives fighting for their country. Many of them are looking for a safe place to go, trying to rescue their families, elders, children, and their animal friends. Many people who are not Ukrainians but were living there are trying to run back to their families and save their lives. That includes students, travelers, and people like us - expats and nomads who found their place in Ukraine, same as we found ours in Portugal. This is a true nightmare happening in front of our eyes, where innocent people die because of Putin's madness. People like us.

I'm going to Poland on the 4th of March (for 2 weeks) and will do whatever I can while I'm there:

- I want to support local collections of necessary products (buying, packing, transporting, etc.)

- I want to take my dad's car and help with the transportation of supplies to the border and transportation of people running away from Ukraine

The final form of my actions will depend on the most important needs at a time - as they change every minute.

Here's where I need your help as well. As much as some things don't require money, a huge part of help that's needed now depends on funds. The whole amount I manage to gather here will be spent on supporting Ukrainian people - either by buying required items or gas to transport supplies, people, and animals. Whatever I won't spend on actions made by my family and me, I will pass to a trusted organization that is helping on a bigger scale.

Please, let's help together and share our love.

I will be sharing detailed information on how the money from this collection is spent.

Also, if you want to help in another way, you can:

  • Fight the fake news on the internet and share true checked information. Misinformation is a huge problem right now.

  • Google restaurants/cafes/hotels in Russia on Google and leave them a review in Russian where you shortly describe what is really happening in Ukraine. No hate, just information. Many Russians are not aware of the true situation, as Russian media are running huge propaganda.

  • Check on FB where are collections nearby and either provide some necessary items or volunteer to prepare packages. The needs are changing but people running collections usually provide the list of things that are the most needed at the time.

  • Provide accommodation for refugees. If you decide to welcome them in your house or share the apartment you own, I will help with organizing transport/flights/documents for those people.
