Antoś story...

My name is Antoś, and I am 23 months old. A year ago, I was diagnosed with a genetic muscle disease, DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY (DMD). Despite my illness, I am a cheerful, joyful boy who likes to cause mischief. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a rare genetic disease that develops gradually, leading to weakness and atrophy of all muscles. The disease slowly takes away the ability to move independently and then swallow and breathe. A wheelchair and a respirator have become necessary for life. Unfortunately, due to the diagnosis, I sometimes have worse moments. I have delayed motor development; I have trouble sitting on my own, and I often fall. I have trouble getting up to kneel, I cannot get up from a sitting position, I do not stand on my feet independently, I have trouble walking and maintaining my balance. Due to the detected disease, I will have long and expensive treatments, therapies with various specialists, as well as rehabilitation.
