W dniach 26-27 października w Krakowie organizujemy duże wydarzenie, na którym każdy będzie mógł spotkać uchodźców i zaangażować się w pomoc w najbardziej „zapalnych” punktach – Brześciu, ośrodkach zamkniętych dla cudzoziemców na terenie Polski, w których przebywają dzieci czy w obozie Moria na wyspie Lesbos, gdzie panują przerażające warunki życia. Nasze dwudniowe spotkanie będzie też okazją, by zadać pytania osobom, które mieszkają w Polsce, a są ofiarami wojen i prześladowań: w Syrii, Afganistanie czy Czeczenii. Będzie można spotkać legendy polskiej pomocy humanitarnej: Jankę Ochojską (PAH) czy Marinę Hulię („Dzieci z dworca Brześć”). Intensywnie pracując z uchodźcami dobrze wiemy, że jedynie osobiste spotkanie może zmienić zarówno nasze podejście do nich, jak i usprawnić naszą pomoc. Chcemy pomagać, przeciwdziałać ich wykluczeniu i budować mosty między gospodarzami a gośćmi.

Jak możesz pomóc?

Wszystkie osoby zaangażowane w tworzenie wydarzenia – uchodźcy, aktywiści, profesjonaliści i organizatorzy – robią to pro bono. We wszystkich spotkaniach w ramach naszego programu również możecie wziąć udział za darmo. Jednak mimo ogromnego wsparcia ze strony Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego i UNHCR, nie jesteśmy w stanie pokryć wszystkich kosztów organizacyjnych.

Chodzi tu o dwie rzeczy: po pierwsze dojazd naszych gości, przede wszystkim uchodźców i osób reprezentujących nieformalne organizacje. Razan i Adel, Syryjczycy, przyjeżdżają do nas z Holandii. Maren – z Cypru. Pavla z Nour – z Czech. Justyna – z Niemiec, Paulina z Poznania, Marina z Madiną z Warszawy. Chcielibyśmy prosić Was o wsparcie naszych działań w zakresie kosztów dojazdu dla osób, które wystąpią w czasie krakowskiego wydarzenia.Po drugie, chcemy by wydarzenie było maksymalnie inkluzywne. Jako team organizatorów korzystamy z języka angielskiego do porozumiewania się i chcemy, by całe wydarzenie było dostępne dla osób, które nie rozumieją języka polskiego.

Pomóżcie nam zrobić ten event tak, żeby był dostępny dla każdego!

Szacujemy, że cały koszt to ok. 5000 złotych – ok. 2000 złotych będzie nas kosztować symultaniczne tłumaczenie, a ok. 3000 – bilety i koszty transportu dla naszych gości.

Kim jesteśmy?

Wydarzenie organizują cztery osoby:Sindhuja Sankaran, doktor psychologii pracująca w Instytucie Psychologii UJ odbyła kilkumiesięczny wolontariat w obozie Moria na wyspie Lesbos. Sindhuja jest inicjatorką całego przedsięwzięcia, organizowała również pierwszą konferencję z serii „Rethinking Refugees”, która odbyła się w lipcu 2018 roku.

Karolina Czerska Shaw jest badaczką w Instytucie Europeistyki UJ, zajmuje się badaniami nt. migracji, integracji oraz wielokulturowości.

Anna i Karol Wilczyńscy – dziennikarze, twórcy największego w Polsce bloga o islamie (islamistablog.pl), odwiedzili w ostatnich latach Syrię, Liban, Turcję, Egipt, a także różne kraje Europy Zachodniej, by poznać sytuację przebywających tam uchodźców.

Meet with Refugees in Cracow! Help us to organise a meeting with refugees, activists, experts and share in the knowledge, expertise and understanding. Meet with Refugees in Krakow

Help us to organise a meeting with refugees, activists, experts and share in the knowledge, expertise and understanding.

Working intensively with refugees, we know that the only way to change our attitudes towards these “Others” and to effectively work towards positive change is to create spaces for positive contact. We would like to help counter the exclusion and prejudice towards them and build bridges between “hosts” and “newcomers”.

What are we doing?

We have been scheming (and dreaming!) about this autumnal meeting for some time, during which we will gather those whom we consider to be the best in this field – in the sphere of understanding and analyzing mechanisms of inclusion/exclusion and integration as well as action (both professionals as well as passionate volunteers).

How can you help?

All those who are helping to make this event happen are doing so pro-bono. All the events will take place free of charge. While we have generous support from the Jagiellonian University and from UNHCR, we are not able to cover all the costs of this undertaking.

Specifically, we need funds to cover two things: firstly, the costs of travel of our speakers, primarily refugees and those who represent NGOs: Razan and Adel, Syrians who will be travelling to Poland from the Netherlands, Maren from Cyprus, Pavla from Nour (Czechia), Justyna from Germany, Paulina from Poznań, Marina and Madina from Warsaw. Would would like to ask you for help in supporting our actions in regards to the costs of these speakers’ travel.

Secondly, we would like to make this event as inclusive as possible. As we have an international as well as local line-up of speakers, we would like to make the panels accessible to a large community of people, both in English and in Polish. Therefore we need to provide simultaneous translation.

We estimate that the total cost will be 5000 PLN – approximately 2000 PLN for simultaneous translation and approx. 3000 PLN for travel costs for our guest speakers.

Who are we?

We are a motley crew of 4 people:

Sindhuja Sankaran is a doctor of psychology and works at the Institute of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University. She was a volunteer at camp Moria on the Island of Lesbos, Greece. Sindhuja is the initiator behind this whole undertaking, and also organized the first event in the “Rethinking Refugees” series, which took place in July 2018.

Karolina Czerska-Shaw is a doctor of sociology and works at the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University. Her academic work focuses on migration and integration issues and the concept /policy /death of multiculturalism. She was also the co-organiser of the “Images of the Unseen” event in 2017, and works on a daily basis with a large body of international students through the Erasmus Mundus MA in Euroculture programme.

Anna and Karol Wilczyńscy are journalists and the founders of the largest Polish blog on the topic of Islam (islamistablog.pl). They have travelled extensively to Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, as well as to various western European countries in order to get to know the situation of refugees in these countries.
