We come to you today with an important message.

In November 2023, our son, Josef, was born. He is only 4 months old and already faces quite a life challenge, in which we, as parents, are extremely involved.

Josef was born with profound bilateral hearing loss, which means that for him to hear and speak, he will need hearing implants. Only these will enable him to learn speech and communicate verbally with the world.

Our goal is to help Josef to participate even more fully in life - to create, build relationships, and share values with those around him. This is the best time to act, as implants will soon become a possibility for him.

Our attitude towards Josef's hearing loss

Josef is a child full of joy, he loves cuddling and rocking by himself in his favorite chair. :) Despite being only four months old, every day he shows us how eager he is to explore the world around him - including the world beyond his reach for now.

As parents, we want to pass on to him a respect for life, the value of work, and an attitude of gratitude and responsibility. We want him to be able to explore the world with all his senses, using hearing and speech as well.

Josef's current state of health

Even after birth, it became apparent that Josef had hearing problems. Subsequent tests confirmed that it was bilateral profound hearing loss. Without hearing implants, Josef will not learn fluent speech, and his communication will be limited. We believe that the ability to speak will open the door to a fuller life for him, and give him the opportunity to create, express himself, make friends, love, and do valuable work.

The matter has urgency, as babies begin the hearing process already in the womb, around the 16th week of pregnancy. From this, it follows that Josef, being beyond this crucial stage of development, is already quite delayed in learning to speak.

Surgery dates

Key months ahead. Diagnostics in April, and the first surgery at the end of May or in June. Every moment is priceless so that Josef can benefit from the implants as soon as possible and begin rehabilitation and discover the world of sounds that awaits him.

It is important that by the time our son is one year old, he should already have at least one functioning implant. Doctors confirm that in the first year, a child's brain has high neuroplasticity, which means a better ability to learn and develop. The early introduction of the implant increases Josef's chances of successful rehabilitation and easier learning.

We plan to have the second implant placed about six months after the first, before Josef turns one year old, to make the most of this crucial period in his development. It's worth knowing that usually both implants are not placed at the same time to avoid an increased risk of complications.

Josef already wears hearing aids to stimulate his auditory nerve and prepare him for surgery. This is an important step toward ensuring the best possible results from the implant.

Rehabilitation after surgery will be the next step in our journey. Classes with a surdologopedist, learning to distinguish and recognize sounds, and learning to speak are just part of the process that will help Josef fully benefit from his new hearing abilities.

The fundraising goal is 140 thousand zlotys.

This is the amount needed to finance the implantation of the first implant.

We will organize a collection for the second implant at a later date.

We are asking you to help us raise funds for the first cochlear implant surgery, which will enable Josef to hear. The costs include not only the surgery itself, but also the necessary tests, hospital stay, and one year of care in the context of setting up the sound processor.

Why are we raising funds in this way and not through the National Health Fund?

With our action and commitment, we want to build in our son an attitude of resourcefulness and empathy.We have ideas on how to raise the needed amount, so we decided not to take a place in the reimbursement queue for people who are in the same situation, but do not have similar opportunities. Observing others in hospital corridors, we think this is a good decision.
