My name’s Robin, and I’m here to ask for help. First, though, a little bit about myself. I’m an English teacher and translator living in Kraków, Poland, and I’m currently writing my final dissertation for an MA in Corpus Linguistics. Unfortunately, life has recently taken a turn for the worse financially, and at this moment I have no money for rent etc.

I’ve been living in Kraków for nearly 29 years all told, but recently things have come to a pretty pass. This year, the amount of translation work available has fallen to practically zero. I think the main reason for this is not my abilities, which have very rarely been questioned, but the advent of AI, which people are now using to write their texts instead of paying a translator to do it. As a result of this it’s become impossible to live, and so I’m asking for help.

As I’m sure you’re aware, this is the middle of the summer vacation in the northern hemisphere, and so finding students for language classes is also very difficult. A thing that adds to my problems is the fact that I’m currently (and, hopefully, temporarily) in a wheelchair, which in essence means that I have to work from home.

In short, I’m struggling and financial help would be incredibly welcome. The money would go on rent, medicine, food (for Marmite, my cat, and me), and other living expenses (phone, internet etc). Essentials only.
