Twórcy bloga Islamista oraz inicjatywy Rethinking Refugees zapraszają do wzięcia udziału w największym wydarzeniu poświęconym islamowi w Polsce. Już 16-18 maja odbędzie się cykl spotkań, warsztatów i rozmów na temat muzułmanów oraz, co najważniejsze, z ich udziałem.

Przygotowanie eventu to dużo pracy i zasobów

W naszym poprzednim dużym evencie, Rethinking Refugees, wzięło łącznie udział ponad 500 osób oraz kilkadziesiąt gości z całej Europy.

Podczas wydarzenia czołowe badaczki – m.in. Hosn Abboud, Rocio Daga, Katarzyna Górak-Sosnowska, Agata Skowron-Nalborczyk, Małgorzata Kossowska – omówią swoje badania i odpowiedzą na pytania wokół islamu, które współcześnie stawia sobie tak wiele osób.

Usłyszymy historie samych muzułmanów – tadżyckiej obrończyni praw człowieka, Muazzamakhon Kadyrovej, która broniła przypadków osób z lokalnej partii muzułmańskiej oskarżanych o terroryzm i która ostatecznie została zmuszona do ucieczki z kraju. Posłuchamy krótkiego wykładu muftiego Nedala Abu Tabaqa z Ligi Muzułmańskiej w RP.

Oprócz tego, w sobotę 18 maja odbędzie się seria warsztatów dla dzieci i dorosłych, w czasie których będzie możliwość szerszego poznania bardziej szczegółowych zagadnień związanych z islamem: sztuką, architekturą, teologią czy dialogiem międzyreligijnym. Rodzice będą mogli przyjść z dziećmi, dla których organizatorzy przygotowali liczne atrakcje: warsztaty malowania henną czy lekcje kaligrafii.

W piątek wieczorem w Spółdzielni Ogniwo przy ul. Paulińskiej 28 odbędzie się tradycyjny muzułmański posiłek wieńczący całodzienny post. Będzie to możliwość spotkania z muzułmanami z lokalnej wspólnoty, przeżywającymi obecnie okres Ramadanu, a zarazem skosztowania pysznych bliskowschodnich (i nie tylko!) specjałów.

Wydarzenie rozpocznie się już 16 maja o 18:00 w Kinie pod Baranami pokazem filmu „Dokąd teraz?” nominowanej do Oscara libańskiej reżyserki Nadine Labaki. Po filmie przewidziana jest dyskusja.

Pełny koszt naszego wydarzenia to ponad 15000 złotych. Otrzymujemy duże wsparcie od Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, ODIHR, Miasta Kraków oraz innych sponsorów.

Kim jesteśmy?

Wydarzenie organizują cztery osoby:

Sindhuja Sankaran, doktor psychologii pracująca w Instytucie Psychologii UJ odbyła kilkumiesięczny wolontariat w obozie Moria na wyspie Lesbos. Sindhuja jest inicjatorką całego przedsięwzięcia, organizowała również pierwszą konferencję z serii „Rethinking Refugees”, która odbyła się w lipcu 2018 roku.

Karolina Czerska Shaw jest badaczką w Instytucie Europeistyki UJ, zajmuje się badaniami nt. migracji, integracji oraz wielokulturowości.

Anna i Karol Wilczyńscy – dziennikarze, twórcy największego w Polsce bloga o islamie (islamistablog.pl), odwiedzili w ostatnich latach Syrię, Liban, Turcję, Egipt, a także różne kraje Europy Zachodniej, by poznać sytuację przebywających tam uchodźców.

The Rethinking Refugees initiative together with the creators of Islamista Blog are inviting you to take part in the most significant event in Poland focused on the topic of Islam. The event will take place between 16th-18th May at the Institute of Psychology, Jagiellonian University (Ingardena 6), Krakow.

The event includes a wide range of expert discussions and workshops with the participation of academics, civil society and professionals, with an emphasis on representing Muslim voices from all of these spheres.

Organizing this event is a lot of work!

The event is yet another way to facilitate integration and create awareness about cultural diversity in Cracow. Together with the representatives of the Muslim community, specialists from Poland, Europe, and the Middle East as well as the representatives of grassroots movements, the most critical questions about Islam will be addressed.

During the event leading researchers from Poland and abroad – among them Hosn Abboud, Rocio Daga, Katarzyna Górak-Sosnowska, Agata Skowron-Nalborczyk, Małgorzata Kossowska – will present their research and answer questions about Islam, a topic that is burdened with complexity and contestation. The last panel discussion will conclude with a debate on the representations of Islam in the media with the participation of journalists on Saturday, 18th May.

The participants of the event will hear stories of Muslims, such as the story of a defender of human rights from Tajikistan, Muazzamakhon Kadyrova, who had to flee her country after defending people from a local Muslim party accused of terrorism. The participants will also have the opportunity to listen to what Mufti Nedal Abu Tabaq, the head of the Muslim League in Poland, has to say about Muslim life in Poland.

Furthermore, a series of workshops will be held in parallel at the Institute of Psychology, UJ, on Saturday, 18th May for children and adults. The workshops will focus on different forms of Islam through the medium of art, calligraphy, story-telling and personal narratives. Other workshops are more remedial in nature and tackle issues like Islamophobia, interfaith dialogue and tolerance education. The aim is to personalise Muslim narratives, circulate best practices, try out new ideas, discuss challenges and ways to engage in positive collective action. The entrance to the panel discussions as well as the workshops is free of charge.

The event will open on 16th May at 18:00 in Kino pod Baranami with the screening of the movie "Where Do We Go Now?" by Oscar-nominated Lebanese director Nadine Labaki. The film screening will be followed by a discussion.

In addition to the main events, an Iftar will be held on Friday evening, 17th May, in Spółdzielnia Ogniwo at Paulińska Str. 28. This is the first meal Muslims eat on breaking their fast during Ramadan. It will be an opportunity to meet Muslims from Cracow who are currently experiencing the period of Ramadan and at the same time enjoy delicious Middle Eastern (but not only!) specialties.

The total budget for of this event is around 15000 PLN. We work voluntarily. Some costs are covered by institutions such as Jagiellonian University, ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) and the City of Krakow. However, we still have some costs to cover such as paying for some speakers, covering the cost the film license, the cost of a simultaneous translator, covering the cost of tea and coffee during the event and so on. Who we are

We are a motley crew of 4 people:

Sindhuja Sankaran is a doctor of psychology and works at the Institute of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University. She was a volunteer at camp Moria on the Island of Lesbos, Greece. Sindhuja founded the initiative Rethinking Refugees in July 2018.

Karolina Czerska-Shaw is a doctor of sociology and works at the Institute of European Studies at the Jagiellonian University. Her academic work focuses on migration and integration issues and the concept /policy /death of multiculturalism. She was also the co-organiser of the “Images of the Unseen” event in 2017, and works on a daily basis with a large body of international students through the Erasmus Mundus MA in Euroculture programme.

Anna and Karol Wilczyńscy are journalists and the founders of the largest Polish blog on the topic of Islam (islamistablog.pl). They have travelled extensively to Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, as well as to various western European countries in order to get to know the situation of refugees in these countries.
